Upholstery is very different from the carpet. Addressing spots and stains usually requires a different set of skills as well as different cleaners. Never use a carpet or rug spot cleaner on your upholstery. This can cause permanent damage to fabrics.
In the event of a spill, first, scrape off any solid substance using a spoon or dull knife. Next, use a white cotton cloth or a white paper towel to blot any liquid from the fabric. As always, be careful not to rub. Follow this up by blotting the stained area again, this time using a damp white cotton cloth.
If the stain is acidic of nature, such as wine, coffee, tea, fruit juice, or vomit, follow the above procedure by then put a sprayer into a fresh bottle of club soda and lightly spray anywhere the stain appears. Allow sitting for a few minutes then blot dry.
